I simply cannot believe it, but our Tessa girl is ONE! Wow. We wanted to celebrate her with close family and friends, and have a small gathering that was as sweet as her. And it was!
The day turned out to be one of the first this season that felt fall-ish, and we took advantage of the gorgeous weather by placing all the food outside. Everyone spent time on the deck, and it was just perfect. Coffee was flowing, family and friends were relaxed and catching up with each other, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
So many friends pitched in to help. My lovely friend Jenessa came over the day before and brought some decorations that she used for her daughter’s party the week before, and helped me plan out the table and other decorative touches.
My amazing next door neighbor, Lizzie, baked the most precious smash cake from scratch just for Tess! It was so beautiful. My besties Danielle and Anna came over early to help set up, and my hero of a husband took Evie out to breakfast so that I could focus on getting everything ready.
We decided to keep the food pretty simple, so we picked up a Chick-fil-A nugget tray and a veggie tray from Costco. We also had coffee, water and tea, and a plate full of Birthday Oreos. I used fresh flowers in Mason Jars I had in the house, and also got colored gum balls and vases from Target. It was no-fuss, but so cute. A perfect reflection of our sweet girl!
Here is the birthday girl getting her first “Happy Birthday” serenade, and the presentation of her sweet cake and candle!
She was cautious at first, but once we helped her do a little smashing, she went for it! It was so amazing to celebrate her little life. I always breathe a sigh of relief when I reach the one year mark with my kiddos- feels like we made it! And now that I see how fast these early years fly by, I can step back and appreciate this even more.
I am so grateful that God chose us to be Tessa’s parents. She is the sweet icing on our family cake. :)
Happy Birthday to my Tessa girl!
